Industrial Base Introduction
Zhangjiagang has traditionally been considered an agricultural region but the agriculture sector has shrunk in the past two decades. In 2006, the revenue from the farming was less than 2% of the city's total GDP. The city has seen a growth of its industrial sectors, ever since.
Early on beginning in the 1970s, the plastics (beverage) machinery industry of Zhangjiagang City developed rapidly and has gained notoriety nationwide. Now, there are over 300 enterprises producing plastics (beverage) machinery with a total number of over 17,000 sets of related equipment. Sales revenue reached about RMB 10 billion, with plastics machinery and beverage machinery accounting for 15% to 45% of the whole domestic market. There are several leading companies of scale, such as VICTOR, Tongda, BEIER, Newamstar, Yili, Jinrong, Lianguan and ASG located in Zhangjiagang.
There are related products including extrusion molding machines, plastics granulation equipment, tube plate & sheet molding machines, hollow molding machines, injection molding machines, auxiliary machines, high speed mixing production lines, recycling equipment, dehumidification production lines, filling machines and packing machines. Among the above products the extrusion molding machines, hollow molding machines and beverage filling & packing machines play a decisive role among the whole domestic machinery producing industry making the city a main machinery production zone nationwide.
In recent three years, the plastics (beverage) industry keeps exploiting the overseas market and foreign trade has achieved steady development. According to early reports, in 2010 the total export volume of the plastics (beverage) industry the city reached $180 million. Self export volume reached $ 127 million, which increased by 57.4% compared with last year. Currently, the trend for the plastic (beverage) machinery producing industry is strong.
